Lent
We are currently in the season of Lent, a time of reflection, repentance, and preparation leading up to the celebration of Easter. Spanning from Ash Wednesday through Holy Week, Lent focuses on Christ’s journey of suffering and crucifixion, inviting us to contemplate His sacrifice and reflect on our own spiritual journeys. Traditionally, this season is marked by 40 days of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer (excluding Sundays), as we remember the 40 days that Christ fasted and was tempted in the wilderness. To mark the significance of Lent, we select music and liturgical changes to help reflect the realities of what we are focusing on. During Lent, you will notice the following changes to our service.
Liturgical Color: You will notice purple vestments on the lectern and on the ministers, symbolizing penance and preparation.
Prelude: Each week, the choir will sing Psalm 51 during the prelude, helping us enter into the solemnity of the season.
Creed: For our creed, we will recite the answer to the first question of the Heidelberg Catechism.
Eucharist Song: As we end "Peace of Christ" and begin to commune at the table, we will sing God and Man at Table. Listen | View PDF
Sermon Series: Our new sermon series for this season is based on Psalm 51, exploring themes of repentance and renewal.
We hope these liturgical changes help set the tone of Lent to one of contemplation and devotion as we prepare our hearts for the glorious celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter!
